TUT’s nursing qualification for the 2027 intake is the Bachelor of Nursing (BNursing), not a diploma. It needs an Admission Point Score (APS) of at least 27, with English, Mathematics or Technical Mathematics, and Life Sciences each at level 4. It runs for four years at the Pretoria Campus.
TUT’s 2027 first-year enrolment booklet lists no diploma in nursing among its Faculty of Science programmes, so if you are searching for a “diploma in nursing at TUT”, the BNursing is the nursing programme to plan around. The published closing date was 15 June 2026, so applications for the 2027 intake have closed.
Entry Requirements at a Glance
For the BNursing (2027 intake):
- National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a bachelor’s degree endorsement
- English (home language or first additional language) at level 4
- Mathematics or Technical Mathematics at level 4
- Life Sciences at level 4
- APS of at least 27, excluding Life Orientation
- Four years, offered at the Pretoria Campus
- Closing date: 15 June 2026 (closed)
Academic and Minimum Admission Requirements
TUT requires an NSC (NQF Level 4) or equivalent with a minimum of six subjects. Its national minimums are at least four subjects at performance level 4 for bachelor’s degrees and at least four subjects at level 3 for diplomas. The BNursing (NQF Level 8, 551 credits) requires an NSC with a bachelor’s degree endorsement.
TUT does not count Life Orientation, or any subject with an achievement level of 1, in the APS. Applicants who already have higher education exposure should know that first-time entrants are preferred: TUT states that a maximum of 5% of the places in a programme can go to applicants with prior higher education.
Subjects, APS and Qualification Requirements
All three subject requirements must be met as well as the APS of 27. TUT names Mathematics or Technical Mathematics for the BNursing, and Mathematical Literacy is not listed.
Level 4 is the 50-59% band in TUT’s APS table. A level 5 is 60-69%.
If you hold a relevant NQF Level 6 national diploma, you may apply and TUT grants exemption for 50% of the credits of the completed national diploma. If your qualification is from outside the NSC system, TUT requires a certificate of equivalence from SAQA or the CHE. TUT cannot obtain it for you, so start the application while the certificate is in process.
Documents and Application Requirements
- Proof of payment of the application fee. For 2027 it is R240, compulsory for first-time applicants, payable once and non-refundable. It is deposited at ABSA using your ID number as the reference.
- A certified copy of your ID
- A certified copy of your NSC, or your final Grade 11 results if you are in Grade 12
These are the documents TUT lists for undergraduate applications. Ask TUT whether the nursing programme asks for anything further at the selection stage.
Selection, Intake and Eligibility Considerations
Selection depends on your APS. If your APS is between 27 and 29, you write a TUT potential assessment and need at least 50% to be eligible. If your APS is 30 or higher, you are automatically eligible and do not write the test. TUT does not admit anyone to a programme without prior evaluation.
You may apply on Grade 11 or mid-year Grade 12 results and receive provisional admission pending your final results. TUT also warns that a programme may close at any time once it is full, even before its deadline.
Nursing education must be accredited by the South African Nursing Council (SANC). SANC’s February 2026 list of accredited universities shows the Bachelor of Nursing at Tshwane University of Technology with 60 students per intake. You can check your application status on tut.ac.za under Study@TUT, then Check Your Status, using your ID number.
