Mqa Bursary 2025 Requirements

The MQA Bursary 2025 is open to South African citizens who meet specific eligibility criteria depending on their employment status.

For Unemployed Applicants:

  • You must be a South African citizen[1].
  • You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric[1].
  • You must be studying or intend to study towards an undergraduate qualification in a mining sector-related field (postgraduate studies are not funded)[1].
  • You must be enrolled at a public university, university of technology, or TVET college in South Africa[1].
  • You must be unemployed at the time of application and remain unemployed during your studies[1][3].
  • You must be in financial need, with a combined household income not exceeding R600,000 per annum (to be verified by MQA)[1][3].
  • Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged Individuals (HDI), females, applicants with disabilities, those living in rural areas, those applying to local institutions, applicants with strong academic records, and those studying in line with the MQA Sectoral Priority Occupations Interventions (SPOI) list[1][3].

For Employed Applicants:

  • You must be a South African citizen[1].
  • You must be currently employed within the mining and minerals sector[1].
  • You must intend to study towards a qualification relevant to the mining sector[1].
  • You must be enrolled or intend to enroll at a public university, university of technology, or TVET college in South Africa[1].
  • You must NOT be on an MQA-funded internship or work experience (P1/P2) programme[1].
  • Preference is given as above (HDI, female, disability, rural, local institutions, strong academic record, SPOI list)[1][3].

Application Window: Applications open on 22 June 2025 and close on 31 July 2025[4][6][7].

Required Documents:

  • Certified ID copy (not older than 3 months)
  • Latest Academic Record
  • Proof of household income for both parents/guardians
  • Proof of residence

Applications must be completed using the MQA application form and supporting documents, then sent to the designated MQA email address. The application process and forms are available on the MQA website[2][3][5].
