Private wealth banking is a bank’s premium tier for high-income or high-asset clients, and every bank sets its own entry criteria. As published in October 2026, Nedbank’s Private Wealth Bundle asks for personal income of more than R2 million a year and/or investable assets above R5 million, excluding your primary residence.

Other banks differ. Standard Bank’s Private Banking Account asks for a minimum income of R58,000 per month, and Absa’s page lists no income or asset threshold. FNB offers a Fusion Private Wealth account, but check its figures with FNB. Thresholds change, so treat every figure here as a dated guide rather than a promise.

Eligibility Requirements at a Glance

Nedbank states the following for its Private Wealth Bundle.

Nedbank also gives clients a dedicated private banker supported by specialists. See the Nedbank Private Wealth Bundle application page and Nedbank’s private banking guide for the current wording. Standard Bank’s income requirement is on its Standard Bank Private Banking Account page.

Income and Affordability Requirements

Banks measure “high net worth” differently. Nedbank uses annual income, investable assets, or both. Standard Bank’s private banking account uses monthly income of R58,000. Ask which measure applies before assuming you do or do not qualify.

FNB’s Fusion Private Wealth account is reported to qualify clients on income or net asset value, and to accept a spouse or partner regardless of their own income. Sources quote different figures for FNB’s account, so none are stated here. Confirm the current threshold with FNB.

Absa lists no income or asset threshold on its private banking page, so ask Absa what it applies in practice.

Credit and Financial Requirements

A private wealth account often comes with credit. Nedbank says its credit facilities are subject to credit and affordability checks, and lists home loans, vehicle and asset finance, structured lending and short-term facilities. Absa says credit features on its private banking account are subject to credit approval.

Meeting the income or asset threshold gets you access to the account. It does not guarantee a credit facility, which each bank approves separately. If investment advice is part of the package, ask the bank how the adviser is paid and what the monthly fee covers before you sign.

Documents and Verification Required

The banks we could read list similar basics.

Source-of-funds and tax-residency documents are not listed for these accounts. A bank may still ask for additional verification, so confirm the full list with your banker when you apply.

How to Apply and Improve Approval Readiness

Nedbank lets you apply through its “Become a client” form, the Nedbank Private Wealth app, Online Banking or a call-me-back request. New clients create a Nedbank ID first. Start at the Nedbank Private Wealth Bundle application page.

With Standard Bank, you use the Banking App’s “Open an Account” option, choose Everyday Banking and then Private Banking, and a Private Banker contacts you to complete the application. A call-me-back or branch visit also works. See the Standard Bank Private Banking Account page.

Absa accepts applications online or through Private Assist on 0860 553 553 or [email protected]. See the Absa Private Banking Account page.

Compare at least two banks, have your documents ready, and check that you meet the stated income or asset measure before you apply. A bundle only makes sense if you will use the lending, banking and advisory features you pay for.
