There is no open, direct student application for a Services SETA bursary at the moment. Services SETA bursaries for TVET college and university students are administered through the institution’s Financial Aid Office, and the SETA’s own site does not publish a list of student eligibility criteria. What it does publish are notices for students who are already funded, so the practical requirements below come from those notices.
Services SETA has also withdrawn its 2026/27 funding windows. If you are asking about a service seta bursary, start with your institution’s Financial Aid Office and the SETA’s bursary funding notice.
Eligibility Requirements at a Glance
Services SETA does not publish a student bursary eligibility checklist (such as an academic average, income ceiling or funding cap), so treat any list that states one as unconfirmed. What the SETA does say is which qualifications fall under its mandate.
- Services SETA qualifications span personal care, real estate, management and business, labour and collective services, communication and marketing, and cleaning and hiring.
- Banking, insurance and social services fall under other SETAs, so a qualification in those fields needs a different SETA.
- Funding for TVET college and university students runs through the institution, so your Financial Aid Office is the place to confirm whether you are on a Services SETA allocation. The SETA lists its student information on its learners page.
Income and Affordability Requirements
Funded students are asked to prove household income. In its notice of 8 October 2026, Services SETA asked students for proof of combined household income for October and November 2025. The SETA does not publish an income ceiling, so ask your Financial Aid Office how your household income will be assessed.
Credit and Financial Requirements
A SETA bursary is a grant paid through your institution, so there is no credit check or credit score requirement. The SETA has not published a per-student funding cap or work-back terms for its student bursaries. If you are offered funding, read the agreement before you sign it, and ask the institution what it covers.
Services SETA has acknowledged delays in bursary payments. If your funding has not been paid, contact your Financial Aid Office to check your funding status.
Documents and Verification Required
Students on Services SETA bursary funding were asked, through their institution’s Financial Aid Office, for the following. The deadline for outstanding documents in the 8 October 2026 notice was 9 October 2026, so it has now passed: contact your Financial Aid Office urgently if you missed it.
- Proof of combined household income for October and November 2025
- Certified ID copies of both parents or guardians
Your institution may ask for more, such as your own ID and proof of registration. Confirm the full list with the Financial Aid Office.
How to Apply and Improve Approval Readiness
- Ask your institution first. Contact the Financial Aid Office at your TVET college or university to find out whether Services SETA funding applies to your qualification and how to be considered.
- Know that the funding windows were withdrawn. On 21 September 2026 Services SETA withdrew its Regular Discretionary Grant window (DG2026/27-02) and its Special Projects window (SP2026/27-03). Applications already submitted will not be evaluated, and they do not transfer to any future window. Watch the SETA’s withdrawal notice and website for new windows.
- Do not confuse the learner portal with an application. The Services SETA learner portal lets you create a profile with your South African ID number so employers and providers can find you. It is not a bursary application. See the learners page.
- Have your documents ready. Keep certified ID copies of your parents or guardians and your household income proof to hand.
- Never pay to apply. No legitimate funder charges a fee to apply for or release a bursary.
