Academic and Minimum Admission Requirements
Minimum requirements are published per programme in the 2027 Undergraduate Minimum Admission Requirements document. VUT notes that the listed minimum subjects and symbols do not guarantee acceptance.
Initial selection is based on your final Grade 11 or latest Grade 12 results. If you already have final matric results, the system matches them to the qualifications you are eligible for, so you can only view and apply for those. If you qualify for both a mainstream and an extended diploma, VUT advises choosing the mainstream programme as your first choice.
Subjects, APS and Qualification Requirements
Requirements are set programme by programme. As examples from the 2027 document: three-year engineering diplomas need an NSC with at least 24 APS points and at least 4 in Mathematics, Physical Science and English, while four-year extended engineering diplomas need 22 APS points with at least 3 in each of those subjects. Check the programme you want in the document before you apply.

Selection, Intake and Eligibility Considerations
Registration at VUT is first-come, first-served and places are limited to a quota for each programme. Accepting an offer does not guarantee registration, so apply early.
The how-to-apply page gives more than one closing date: its banner shows 30 September for academic applications and 31 October for residences, while the notice text gives 30 October 2026 for national applicants and 30 September 2026 for international applicants. Some programmes closed on 31 July 2026. Confirm the date for your programme and applicant type with VUT before you rely on any of these.
