TUT publishes its course and admission requirements as downloadable PDF documents, principally the annual First Year Course Information brochure and the faculty prospectus parts. These contain the compulsory subjects, minimum levels, APS and closing dates for every programme.
The critical check when using a PDF is which academic year it covers. Prospectus PDFs circulate for years after publication, and requirements, fees and closing dates all change between editions.
Entry Requirements at a Glance

- The compulsory subjects and minimum levels listed for it
- The minimum Admission Point Score published for it
- The campus codes indicating where it runs

Academic and Minimum Admission Requirements
The First Year Course Information brochure is the single most useful document, presenting every programme in a table with its requirements. Individual faculty prospectus parts give fuller detail on curriculum and progression.
TUT calculates the Admission Point Score from your matric results, excluding Life Orientation entirely and excluding any subject in which you achieved an achievement level of 1. Your score is therefore built from your remaining subjects.
Subjects, APS and Qualification Requirements
Read the compulsory subjects column carefully. Where a programme lists Mathematics or Technical Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy does not satisfy it, and this is the most common misreading.
The minimum level column gives an achievement level from 1 to 7 rather than a percentage. Level 4 corresponds to 50 per cent and level 5 to 60 per cent.
Documents and Application Requirements
Applications normally require the following.
- Proof of payment of the R240 application fee
- A certified copy of your identity document or card
- A certified copy of your National Senior Certificate, or your final Grade 11 results if you are currently in Grade 12
- A SAQA evaluation certificate, if you hold a foreign qualification

First-year applications for the 2027 academic year opened on 1 April 2026. Closing dates are set per programme at 15 June, 31 July or 30 September, and TUT warns that a programme may close as soon as it is full even if the published deadline has not passed. The application fee for the 2027 academic year is R240, compulsory for all first-time applicants, payable once and strictly non-refundable.
