The minimum requirements for IT at TUT depend on the diploma you choose. For the 2027 intake, the Dip (Information Technology) at Soshanguve South needs an NSC with a bachelor’s or diploma endorsement, English at level 4, and either Mathematics or Technical Mathematics at level 5 or Mathematical Literacy at level 7, with an APS of at least 26 (Mathematics) or 28 (Mathematical Literacy).

Academic and Minimum Admission Requirements
Every programme asks for an NSC (NQF 4) or equivalent with at least six subjects, including English at level 3 or better; the ICT diplomas above set English at level 4. Nationally, the legal minimum for a diploma is an NSC with at least 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the institution and an achievement rating of 3 (40-49%) or better in four recognised 20-credit subjects; for a bachelor’s degree it is a rating of 4 (50-59%) or better in four such subjects. TUT then applies its own, higher, programme-specific requirements.
Life Orientation and any subject in which you achieved level 1 are not counted in your APS. Applications for the 2027 academic year opened on 1 April 2026.
Subjects, APS and Qualification Requirements
TUT states that Mathematics is compulsory for the Faculty of ICT. In practice, the Computer Science, Informatics and Information Technology diplomas also accept Mathematical Literacy at level 7, but at a higher APS of 28. Computer Systems Engineering does not.
Information Technology as a school subject is recommended (not required) for Computer Science; none is listed for Information Technology or Informatics.
The extended-curriculum (foundation) versions lower the entry. For example, the extended Dip (Information Technology) needs English level 3 and Mathematics level 4 or Mathematical Literacy level 6, with an APS of 23 (Mathematics) or 25 (Mathematical Literacy), and takes a minimum of four years.
Documents and Application Requirements
For the 2027 intake, TUT asks for the following.
- Proof of payment of the R240 application fee (deposit to ABSA, with your ID number as the reference)
- A certified copy of your identity document or card
- A certified copy of your National Senior Certificate, or your final Grade 11 results if you are currently in Grade 12
- A certificate of equivalence from SAQA or the CHE, if you hold an alternative or international qualification. TUT cannot obtain it for you, but you should start your application while it is in process
The application fee is compulsory for all first-time applicants, payable once and strictly non-refundable. Use your own email address when you apply; TUT says not to use anyone else’s.
Selection, Intake and Eligibility Considerations

You may apply on Grade 11 or mid-year Grade 12 results and receive provisional admission pending final results. Acceptance depends on capacity under TUT’s Student Enrolment Plan, with first-time entering students given preference and a waiting list for places not taken up.
