A boilermaker course is only worth doing if it leads to the National Occupational Certificate: Boilermaker (SAQA 123381, NQF level 4, 540 credits). Entry is an NQF level 1 qualification with mathematics, with RPL available for access, and the SAQA record lists no additional legal or physical entry requirements.

Academic and Minimum Admission Requirements
The qualification has compulsory knowledge modules worth 162 credits in total, including Introduction to Boilermaker Trade (NQF 3, 9 credits), Environmental Protection, Health and Safety, Cutting and Welding, Fabrication and Pipework.
The national record does not set a minimum age, a medical assessment or an NSC pass. A provider or employer may ask for these, so confirm with them. TVET college entry rules for N-level or NCV boilermaking differ by college; ask the college directly.
Subjects, APS and Qualification Requirements
Mathematics is the one subject the national entry requirement names. No Physical Sciences or Engineering Science requirement is listed on the record, and there is no national APS.
Engineering Graphics and Design is useful practical preparation, since the trade involves working from drawings, but it is not a listed requirement.
Documents and Application Requirements
To sit the external assessment you need statements of results for all the knowledge and practical modules and a record of completed work experience. Your provider or employer will tell you what else it requires to enrol, such as ID and previous results.
Selection, Intake and Eligibility Considerations
