There is no single national price for a professional driving permit (PrDP). The fee is prescribed by the MEC of each province, and the national government page tells you to contact your local licensing office for the cost. What you pay therefore depends on where you apply, plus a separate fee to the doctor who completes your medical.

The sources checked list no vehicle inspection requirement for the PrDP application itself. The safety check they describe is the medical examination, which you pay the practitioner for directly. No official medical fee was found, so phone a few practices and compare.

Nationally, the gov.za professional driving permit page lists the following. Confirm the exact photo count and any extras with your DLTC.

- Four identical black-and-white photographs (confirm the number with the DLTC)

- KwaZulu-Natal: R150 for the PrDP application plus R110 paid at a bank for the conviction verification, as stated by KZN Transport. The page is undated.
- George: Professional Driving Permit R220, as listed by George Municipality.
- Kouga renewal: R216 for the card and R108 for the PrDP, plus R100 for fingerprints paid to Afiswitch at a bank, per the Kouga transaction requirements. The document is undated.
Ask the centre which payment methods it takes. KZN states that card payments only apply at provincially run centres. Keep every receipt, and pay only the centre and the bank account it directs you to.
