Documents, PrDP or Supporting Evidence
Requirements vary slightly between centres. The national gov.za list includes:
- Your ID, driving licence card or passport

- Your existing PrDP
- A medical certificate, valid only if not older than two months
- Photographs (gov.za mentions four identical black-and-white photographs; centres differ, so confirm the number)
- Proof of postal and residential address
- A training-body certificate if you hold or apply for the dangerous goods category

As an example of local practice, the Kouga Municipality renewal list asks for the medical to be done before the day of application, plus PD1, MC form, ID, one photograph, a dangerous goods certificate where applicable and proof of address.
Registration or Application Process
Renew in person at a driving licence testing centre, and book ahead where the centre allows it. A workable order:
- See a doctor for the medical, timed so it is not more than 2 months old on the day you apply.
- Gather your licence, ID, current PrDP, photographs and proof of address.
- Apply at the testing centre on or before the expiry date and keep proof of the fee you paid.
If you applied on or before expiry and carry the old permit plus proof of the fee paid, the old permit stays valid until the new one is issued or refused, but not for more than four months after its expiry date (regulations). Apply after expiry and that protection is not available on the sources checked.
The new permit runs for 24 months from the day after the old one expired when you apply on or before expiry. For reminders, the online system sends an SMS or email on the 1st of the month in which your PrDP expires and none after expiry (George Municipality).
Fees: there is no single national fee published on the pages checked; gov.za refers you to your local office, and municipalities list different amounts. Ask your testing centre for the current total.
