Registration on a delivery platform is free and is done directly. Everything charged around it — paid activation, guaranteed acceptance, an account bought from someone else — is either fraud or a terms breach that ends badly.

This page covers the registration process itself, what commonly delays it, and how to recognise the versions of it that are not genuine.

Driver or Vehicle Requirements at a Glance

What registration generally requires.

Licence and Eligibility Requirements

Register through the platform’s own channels only — its app, its website or its stated onboarding process. Registration is free. Anyone charging a fee to register you, to activate an account or to guarantee acceptance is defrauding you.

Never buy or use someone else’s account. An account in another person’s name means you are unidentified to the platform and to customers, the insurance position is void, and you have no recourse in a dispute. It is also a terms breach that results in permanent deactivation, and the money paid for it is gone.

Register with your real details, exactly as they appear on your ID. Verification checks the documents against the details entered, and a mismatch stops the process. Correcting registration details later is far harder than entering them correctly.

Documents must be current and legible. Most rejections are the photograph rather than the document — blurred, cropped, poorly lit or expired. Photograph documents flat, in good light, with all four corners visible.

Background checks take time. Where a police clearance is required, obtain it early — it is usually the longest item in the process.

Vehicle, Inspection and Safety Requirements

The vehicle has to be ready too. A valid vehicle licence, roadworthy condition, and insurance covering commercial delivery use. A personal policy generally excludes it.

Get insurance sorted before the first delivery, not after. An accident on the first day with a personal policy is the worst version of this mistake.

Where you use a rented vehicle, the registration must match what you are actually riding or driving, and the rental terms should be in writing.

Keep your details current after registration. An expired licence, an expired vehicle licence or a lapsed permit will deactivate the account, usually without warning and usually at an inconvenient moment. Diarise every expiry date.

Protect the account. A unique password used nowhere else, two-factor authentication where offered, and a SIM swap lock with your mobile provider. Never share a one-time PIN with anyone, including someone claiming to be from the platform.

Establish your employment status. Whether a delivery driver is an independent contractor or an employee has been contested, and it affects rights under the Labour Relations Act 66 of 1995 and the Basic Conditions of Employment Act 75 of 1997. Where you work through a fleet owner rather than directly with a platform, get the arrangement documented.

Registration or Application Process

Complete the registration in one sitting with the documents photographed and ready, and respond promptly to any request for additional information — applications left incomplete are commonly closed.

If registration is rejected, ask for the specific reason. Most rejections are document quality or a detail mismatch, and both are fixable. Resubmitting the same documents without addressing the reason wastes days.

Watch for fake recruitment. Messages and social media posts offering delivery work with a registration fee, a WhatsApp application process or guaranteed acceptance are fraudulent. Verify against the platform’s own website before sending anything.

Never send documents to an unverified party. Identity documents and driver’s licences sent to a fraudulent recruiter are the raw material of identity theft, and that harm outlasts the lost fee.

Keep records of trips, earnings and expenses. Income from this work is taxable and must be declared to SARS, and expenses actually incurred in producing it are deductible — but only with records. Registering as a provisional taxpayer may apply; confirm with SARS.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does registration cost anything?

No. Registration is free and done directly through the platform. Anyone charging to register, activate or guarantee an account is defrauding you.

Can I use someone else’s account?

No. You would be unidentified to the platform and customers, the insurance position is void, and it is a terms breach resulting in permanent deactivation.

Why was my registration rejected?

Usually document quality or a detail mismatch — a blurred or cropped photograph, an expired document, or a name entered differently from the ID. Ask for the specific reason and fix that.

What deactivates an account later?

An expired driver’s licence, vehicle licence or permit, usually without warning. Diarise every expiry date.

Registration requirements, verification processes and platform terms are set by the platform and are revised. Register only through the platform’s own channels and confirm current requirements there.
