Academic and Minimum Admission Requirements
The Bachelor of Nursing at TUT is a four-year programme offered at the Pretoria campus, and it prepares graduates to practise as a nurse and midwife in public and private healthcare facilities or as a private nurse practitioner.
An APS of 27 is TUT’s published minimum. It is the threshold for consideration rather than a guarantee, and TUT warns explicitly that a programme may close at any time once it is full, even if the stated deadline has not passed. In a heavily subscribed programme such as nursing that warning matters.
Graduates can progress to MNursing and a PhD in Science (Nursing) at TUT. The qualification also leads to registration with the South African Nursing Council, which is what permits you to practise.
Subjects, APS and Qualification Requirements
TUT calculates the Admission Point Score from your matric results, and two exclusions are important: Life Orientation is not counted, and an achievement level of 1 in any subject is not counted either. That means your APS is built from your other subjects, so a weak result in one of them costs you more than students often expect.
The three compulsory subjects for BNursing are English, Mathematics or Technical Mathematics, and Life Sciences, each at level 4. Level 4 corresponds to 50% or above.
Because Mathematical Literacy is not among the accepted options, subject choice made in Grade 9 effectively determines eligibility for this programme. If you took Mathematical Literacy and want to enter nursing, ask TUT about alternative routes and consider auxiliary or enrolled nursing qualifications elsewhere, which have different entry requirements and can articulate upward later.

TUT advises applying as early as possible because a programme may close as soon as it is full, regardless of the published deadline. For nursing, where places are limited by clinical placement capacity, that means the effective deadline can arrive well before 15 June.
