Western Cape University Nursing Requirements

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) offers a Bachelor of Nursing (B Nursing) and Bachelor of Nursing & Midwifery (B Nursing & Midwifery) under its Faculty of Community and Health Sciences. The main undergraduate nursing degrees are four or five-year programmes, combining theory and practical experience.[3]

Minimum admission requirements for B Nursing/B Nursing & Midwifery:

  • National Senior Certificate (NSC) with Bachelor’s endorsement (Bachelors pass)[4].
  • Minimum of 30 UWC points as calculated according to UWC’s scoring system[2].
  • English Home Language or First Additional Language: Code 4 (50-59%) or above[2].
  • Another language Home/First Additional Language: Code 3 (40-49%) or above[2].
  • Mathematics: Code 4 (50-59%) or above OR Mathematical Literacy Code 6 (70-79%)[2].
  • Life Sciences: Code 4 (50-59%) or above[2].

Applicants are required to apply online and upload all supporting documents, including their NSC results and identity documents. The application window for 2026 will be open from 2 April to 30 September 2025[4].

Please note that meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee selection. Selection is competitive and depends on the number of available places and the academic strength of applicants.[5]

Additional qualifications and postgraduate nursing diplomas are also available for those who already possess a degree or relevant diploma in nursing.[3]
