  • Education: Minimum of a Grade 12 diploma (or equivalent).
  • Language: Must have passed English at Grade 12 level or equivalent and demonstrate English proficiency (written and verbal).
  • Certifications: A valid Class 4 Medical Certificate confirming medical fitness. A CAA-certified Cabin Crew Member (CCM) qualification is preferred but not mandatory at entry.
  • Physical Requirements: Minimum height of 1.58 meters, weight proportional with a maximum BMI of 35, and ability to swim.
  • Appearance: No visible tattoos while in uniform.
  • Background Checks: Must pass criminal, credit, and qualification checks.
  • Skills & Personality: Should be fluent in English, have strong problem-solving skills, remain calm under pressure, demonstrate cultural adaptability, and excel in customer service situations.

The SAA hiring process typically involves an online application, interviews, medical exams, and six to eight weeks of intensive training in safety, first aid, and customer service[2]. Additional advantages include holding a 3-year diploma (NQF Level 6), which can improve hiring chances. Candidates must also be competent swimmers and have the capacity to handle the physical demands of cabin duties[4].

Candidates are not required to pay any fees for application, and SAA emphasizes safety, professionalism, and strong interpersonal skills among its cabin crew[4].
