Mozambique Border Requirements

Travelers to Mozambique must comply with specific border requirements depending on their nationality and travel purpose. Below are the key requirements:

Passport and Visa Requirements

  • All travelers must have an original passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry, with at least two blank pages available for visa stamps.[1]
  • Visas are available as either single entry (30 days) or multiple entry (90 days), to be used within 60 days from the date of issuance.[1]
  • Tourist visa applicants need confirmed flight and hotel reservations, while business travelers must provide an invitation letter from a Mozambican host company and proof of financial resources.[1]
  • Work visa applicants must submit an authorization letter from the Mozambican Ministry of Labor or Justice, a clean bill of health (valid for 3 months), a work contract, and a police clearance from their current residence (authenticated by appropriate authorities).[1]

Visa-Exempt Travelers and Pre-Travel Registration

  • Travelers from 29 designated visa-exempt countries have typically been required to register electronically at least 48 hours before departure and pay a fee of 650 Meticais to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). This rule applies for stays up to 30 days for business or tourism.[3][5]
  • Essential documents upon arrival include a printed or digital ETA, valid passport, proof of accommodation, return flight, and evidence of sufficient financial means.[3]

Temporary Suspension of ETA Registration Requirement

It remains essential to always check with your nearest Mozambican embassy or official government channels before travel, as border requirements and procedures can change unexpectedly.
