The minimum requirements for admission to the Bachelor of Commerce (Extended Curriculum) (General) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) are as follows[1][3]:
- NSC Degree pass with a minimum of 26 NSC points (excluding Life Orientation).
- Mathematics at Level 3 (40-49%).
- English (Home Language or First Additional Language) at Level 4 (50-59%).
- Life Orientation at Level 4 or equivalent.
Alternatively, applicants with a Matriculation Exemption must have at least 36 points and Mathematics at Higher Grade ‘D’ or Standard Grade ‘B’[1]. The programme is four years in duration.
Additional notes:
- The Extended Curriculum is intended for candidates who do not fully meet the standard entrance or Mathematics requirement for the traditional three-year BCom. Successful completion of foundational modules in the first year is compulsory for progression to the mainstream BCom programme[3].
- Preference may be given to applicants from Quintile 1-3 schools[3].
- Applicants who have previously registered at UKZN or any other tertiary institution for a full semester are not eligible for the Extended Curriculum (General)[3].
- All requirements stated are minimums; fulfilling them does not guarantee admission, as selection is competitive[8].
