Admission requirements for AHC (Allan Hancock College) Nursing programs vary depending on the specific track (e.g., LVN, RN), but general prerequisites and materials apply. Applicants must typically:
- Hold a current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Psychiatric Technician license.
- Complete prerequisite courses including English 101, a 100-level math course (statistics recommended), Psychology 101, and specified biology courses.
- Submit an official online application with all required documentation by the stated deadline. This includes official high school transcripts (or equivalent), and official transcripts from all colleges attended. Applicants with a U.S. associate’s or bachelor’s degree do not need a high school transcript.
- Provide proof of residency.
- Submit ATI TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) scores directly from the testing company.
- Applicants are responsible for ensuring all required materials are received by the College by the deadline.
- Nursing priority registration is available for students working toward an LVN or RN degree at AHC who have not completed science prerequisites; involves specific application steps including submission of a form and a current Student Educational Plan (SEP) approved by a counselor.
For the Registered Nursing (RN) program, applicants must also meet the following:
- Possess a U.S. high school diploma or GED.
- Hold a current, valid, and unencumbered California LVN license.
- Complete all required courses with a satisfactory grade before applying.
- Meet merit-based admission criteria, which include overall GPA, number of science course repeats (Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology), and results on a merit-based admissions test (NCLEX-PN based). An applicant with more than four science repeats is ineligible.
- Attend a mandatory orientation and submit immunization records, tuberculosis screening, influenza vaccine, physical examination, CPR certification, and pass criminal background and drug screening checks.
Applications are reviewed during specific periods for Spring, Fall, and Summer entry; letters of notification regarding acceptance are mailed or emailed to applicants after review.
