Tuks Requirements

The University of Pretoria (TUKS) has specific admission requirements for prospective undergraduate students applying with a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or an Independent Examination Board (IEB) qualification[5].

  • Admission is considered for:
    • Candidates with a certificate equivalent to the required NSC with bachelor’s degree endorsement
    • Candidates who are graduates from another tertiary institution, or have been granted the status of a graduate from such an institution
    • Candidates who are graduates of another faculty at the University of Pretoria
  • Conditional admission: Grade 11 results may be used for conditional admission, but final admission depends on the NSC (or equivalent) results[5].
  • Subject and achievement requirements: Applicants must meet specific subject and achievement level requirements, as well as the minimum Admission Point Score (APS) for their chosen programmes[5].
  • APS calculation: The APS is calculated using the NSC 1–7 scale and is based on the achievement in six recognised 20-credit subjects. The highest possible APS is 42. Life Orientation, a 10-credit subject, is excluded from this calculation[5].
  • Language of instruction: Unless otherwise required by the programme, all modules are taught in English[5].
  • Programme minimum requirements: Each programme has set minimum admission requirements, which are outlined in the relevant brochure or table. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee admission[5].
  • Qualifications not accepted: The University does not accept School of Tomorrow (SOT), Accelerated Christian Education (ACE), or General Education Development (GED) qualifications[5].
  • National Certificate (Vocational) (NCV) Level 4: NCV candidates may be considered if they meet bachelor’s status exemption and programme-specific requirements[5].
  • Alternative qualifications: Applicants with qualifications other than NSC and IEB should refer to the International Undergraduate Prospectus for guidelines[5].
